Sarah Bear Starts Kindergarten
Today, at 12:40p, we took our first-born to school. She started Hayes Elementary school, and her teacher is Mrs. Palmyra. She was super excited to get A's to bring home, all morning. She wrote her name all over every piece of paper she could get her hands on, and I taught her how to write her last name too, but I'm not sure if she'll remember that one.
I wanted to take some pictures of her and the boys out front. As I grabbed the camera, I started thinking that I should call Scott (our family photo guy, HA!). He's been there for most big events in our family since we met him, to take pictures, and it just seemed weird that he wasn't there. After about 20 minutes of thinking about it, I came to the conclusion that it would be weird to be the one parent who shows up with a professional photographer on her daughters first day of school. Overkill?? Probably would've been, but I missed him bein there. HA!
There were a ton of parents on the playground with all of their kids, taking pictures and video. And I was nervous that I would be the only dorky parent taking pictures of her kid! Allan was even a little embarrassed that I took the camera with me. But whatever. He got in the spirit of things and took her in her classroom for some pictures. Luke and Taylor even got to play a bit on the playground before we left, so they were pretty stoked. While Taylor was playing on the playground, he spotted it..........a Buzz Lightyear backpack. He jumped off of the jungle gym so fast, ran over to the woman holding the backpack and screamed, louder than I've ever heard him scream before, "BUZZ!!!!!" "B-B-B-BEYOND!!! (too infinity and beyond)"
Right before Mrs. Palmyra was going to blow the whistle, Sarah went and sat down in the shade quietly. I went and sat with her. I asked her what was wrong and she said she was hot, and wanted to go inside. I told her we had to sit out here and have fun with all of our new friends. She leaned her head on me, and was just really quiet. I tried to tell her how much fun she was going to have and how many neat friends she was going to make, and all of the fun things she'll learn. I think she was starting to get nervous.
Allan and I decided it was time for us to make our exit and let her be a big girl and get the hang of things with the other kids..............we were the only parents that thought that, by the way. As we were walking out of the gate, Mrs. Palmyra blew the whistle for all of the kids to grab their backpacks and line up. Sarah ran over, grabbed her backpack, was first in line, and yelled to her teacher, "Look at my backpack!! It's gorgeous!" I made Allan stop and take pictures of the kids lining up........but all of the parents were in the way. As the door opened, and the kids piled in the classroom, the parents tried to come in too!!!! Rookies!
Standing at the gate, watching my first baby walk into her very first day of school, in her very first classroom, I got teary. As much as she makes me crazy, she is my little helper and will always be my baby............then I remembered it's nap time, and there will be quiet at home for at least 2 1/2 hours. HORRAY!!

Congrats Sarah! That would have been SOMETHING to have a professional photographer there! LOL! Enjoy those precious hours of peace!
Aw! So exciting! Btw, I was the ONLY parent with a camera at Abs first day:)
It's nice to be thought of. If I'd have shot the other kids, you'd have been Hero Mom. It's never too soon to start being WAY too involved in your kids' educations.
