Week 6

For this week, I didn't take this photo, but it is of me, AND it was taken this week....so that's something, at least, right? LOL! Honestly, I didn't feel the need to come up with anything for this week, after this photo was taken. Plus, it really shaped a characteristic that I really love about myself.

Sometimes the hubs does a pretty good job

This photo was taken by my husband, when we were out on a date, one night. I have decided to try to take my camera most places I go. I have noticed that when I'm out and about, I always see something that I wish I had my camera for. So, for this date, I threw my camera and a lens in my smaller camera bag, and off we went. We took this photo on a walk way bridge, right over  Las Vegas Boulevard, in between The Wynn and the Fashion Show Mall.

The reason I chose this photo to represent this week is because I truly love where I'm from. I love being from Las Vegas. I'm so proud of my home town. I love that the best restaurants in the world are 30 minutes from my house, and I get to experience them. I love that we have some of the most amazing shows on the planet, in my city, or they come through my city, and I get to see them! That night, I got to go to the National Geographic exhibit at The Venetian. I got to learn the stories behind some of the most famous, and gorgeous photos, and learn the back stories of them, or watch videos about them, featuring the photographer who took them. THAT'S AMAZING!!

Just havin fun on the strip, before dinner at Buddy V's.

I love that we have some of the most beautiful outdoor spots, and they are just minutes from anywhere in the valley! I love that I can experience 3 different cultures, just driving down Spring Mountain. I love that walking down the strip, I can be surrounded by 10 different countries, and hear 15 different languages. I love that, while this city seems big, it's really not. It's still a small town. I especially love the sunsets here. They are unlike any sunsets anywhere else. I love UNLV basketball (even though I don't get to keep up with it as much as I'd like. YAY KIDS......), and I love going to the games. I love  driving out to Boulder City, and going to the art festivals. I love going to Hooverdam and seeing the amazing amounts of effort that went into that overwhelming structure. I love going to all of the different festivals, and activities, around town, and really taking in everything that this amazing place has to offer. I love watching my children experience some of the coolest things, in their own city. Also, I love that everything I've talked about in this post is no more than 45 minutes away from where I live (and I live on the major outskirts of town). Nothing is far! Everything is so so close, and convenient.

Getting ready for Chinese New Year at The Venetian

LOVE my macro lens!! Would've been better had it been in focus. Owell.

I am a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints (Mormon), and I love how strong the church is here. People are often surprised by that, and I have to be honest, I am surprised that they are surprised. The LDS population is quite large here, and they might be the best Mormons on the planet. The church is so strong here. I think that because there is such a diverse population in one small place, people seem to be much more accepting, or at least, eager to learn about another person's religious views. There isn't really concentrated main faith base in this town, and I love that. I love learning about different religions, and different view points. This town has taught me how to be truly accepting of everyone.

I understand that when I tell people that I am from Las Vegas, there first thought will be the Strip. But, Vegas is much more than just that street (even though that street is AMAZING!). There are so many opportunities, so much beauty, and so much community here. Even though we appreciate Las Vegas Boulevard, for everything it has to offer, the rest of the city has pretty amazing things to accentuate that street. We have amazing museums, especially the children's museum. We have a GORGEOUS new theater, where some pretty spectacular shows come now. We have a super fun water park, that is only going to get bigger and bigger. One of my favorite places, off the strip, is Valley of Fire. It has so much history, and evidence of that history, and it's easy to find! That place is just beautiful, and is one of my favorite places to camp (when I get to go). I love watching this town evolve and grow into a neat family friendly place. I love that places that I went to as a child, have been revamped and re-done, and now I can take my kids there, and create new memories with them, while showing them my favorite things.

I love Las Vegas. I love being from here. It makes me so sad when I hear people not liking it, because of some experience that they had on the Strip. There is so much more to Las Vegas, than just that one street. There are some down sides to this city, but there are in any place you live. But, I am proud to be from this amazing city, and of the opportunities this city has given my family and I. This is my home, and I wouldn't have it any other way.
