New, almost Hobby

So, as of recently, I wanted to learn to make fondant cakes. I mean, I guess decorate with fondant. Anyone can make a cake, duh!

So anyways, my step-mom came over with 2 logs of angel food cake to decorate. We went to Joanns the night before and bought pre-rolled fondant. I was skeptical, but my friend who does this, says that it's just fine. We were both very nervous, because we had no idea what we were doing. She did more than I did, because she used to do this for a living, but still. Not with fondant.

Mine was going ok, and I was figuring it out. Trying to remember, simpler is better, right? My step-mom, however, well.......... it started out ok, and then it just got weird. Now my step-dad calls it the cheese-it cake. HA!

(Mine is the white one with poka dots, and Vicki's is the blue one with weird confetti things)

I decided to make a boarder along the bottom, which didn't turn out great, but it was worth a shot, but she decided to add a few more decorations to hers, and then a boarder too. I'm not sure what she was going for, but it looks like either sushi, or shrimp wrapped eggs. HA! Needless to say I was laughing so hard when we were trying to make them.

(Can you find the Cal-lily that she made??)

It was really fun to try to figure this out, and I think I love it. So...........I decided to attempt Luke's birthday cake. He really wants a Toy Story birthday, so these are the inspirations for his birthday cake.

or

I love them both, but I'll probably attempt the first one, since that seems to be more my level currently. HA! Wish me luck!!

I really should finish some quilts first though, right? NAH!

This is something that is at the top of my "want to do" list. I'm already practicing too many hobbies but I can't helpt it..I love so many things. Even though I want to, I won't be doing cakes for a while. I'm still on my sewing kick for now :) Yours looks awesome! Does it taste good? I've heard mixed opinions on whether it tastes as good. but hey, it's cute!

Good job! I would love to learn to do that--so when you become a pro we will have to have you teach a class!

I am with Tera, this is also on my want to do list but not something I have time for at the moment. I would love to learn how. I think they look awsome especially for your first time.
