Yesterday, I took the kids, by myself, to Red Rock. I really don't know what I was thinking. Yesterday was not the day for it. I should've known by the way the kids were acting, how the day was unfolding. All in all though, it was a pretty OK trip.
Some highlights from the trip worth mentioning:
- We were supposed to go to Red Rock with a friend from the ward, but some events were happening in her day, that prevented her and her family from joining us. She said that she was going to try to meet up with us after her appointment was done, but she forgot her checkbook and cash, so she couldn't get into the park. Instead, they went to Calico Basin, while we were inside of Red Rock. Technically, she did come. We just weren't in the same part.
-Walking to the waterfall, Taylor would not leave the rocks alone! I had Sarah and Luke walking, but that kid would not walk. He could've sat in one spot the whole 2 hours we were there, and played with rocks and sand. Boy was he ticked off when I would make him get up and walk.
- Sarah was being such a great big sister, helping Luke climb up the rocks and holding his hand when he was getting nervous.
- Going on the bridge, there were all of these black bee's flying around. Scared the crap out of the kids (and me), to the point that they didn't want to go any further. But, we ran across the bridge, and made it without touching a bee. However, on the way back, there were 2 bee's just sitting right in the middle of the entrance to the bridge. The kids did NOT want to go. I convinced them to run across the bridge, crying of course. Half way through, Sarah decided she was too scared to run anymore, and just stopped. I was right behind her, holding Taylor, and we all went down. The kids were all fine, just scared, and being a bit dramatic. I, however, had blood dripping down my legs, and was pretty banged up. Owell. Wouldn't be a trip without 1 or 2 times of me falling and getting hurt. Right?
- While Sarah and Luke were hiking around the pond and waterfall, another family showed up. I overheard the dad talking to his daughter. Her name was Eleanor. The family called her Ellie. She had black curly hair. I must've stared at her for 10 minutes. I miss my Ellie.
- Just before you get to the pond, there is a cave that you have to walk through. The kids thought this was so dang awesome. As soon as we got in it, they all were roaring like bears, although, that scared Taylor. But as we were walking out, and entered the cave again, he was roaring louder than Sarah and Luke. Which prompted the game, "What Does This Animal Say?"
The trip was pretty eventful and fun. Next time, though, if the day is going bad, I won't attempt to take them. I should've known. HA!
