A few weekends ago, I got the opportunity to travel to my sisters house, to photograph the newest member of the Weems family, Jacob. I was so excited, but incredibly nervous! I had never photographed a newborn before, and had no idea where to start, and what to do!! I know I don't like a lot of props and weird things, but really, you kind of have to. I mean, what are you gonna do with a newborn? They just sit there! So, with lots of help, and encouragement from Lisa, I set off, with almost everything I owned for shooting, my lights, a very tiny rental car, my nerves and my camera. My sister had told me that she'd like a new family picture, a Christmas card picture, photos of the boys, and, most importantly, photos of baby Jacob. So, off I went! I got there that evening, around 6p, and started shooting, almost as soon as I got there. Lisa was sweet enough to be on standby, via text, for feedback, so that helped a ton.
It was so amazing doing this for them! It is so special to be able to capture a family, especially a new family, and show them photos that they can look at, and say, "YES! You got us! You captured us!" I hope I did that for them.
These are some from the first night:
| My brother in law is an amazing musician, and writes beautiful songs. So, I wanted to, somehow, incorporate that. |
| This is my favorite shot. It's simple and classic. |
| Daddy is a captain, for Colton Fire Department, (the youngest in Colton's history, might I add) and I thought this was a unique way to show how proud his family is of him. |
| This was mommy's idea, and I LOVE it! |
These are from the following morning, right before I was set to leave:
For a week, I had an idea in my head for their family picture. It was actually the image I had in my head, for my own family. We do "family in bed time", where we all just pile in our bed, and either watch tv together, or just play around, and snuggle, and talk. It's my favorite thing. However, family pictures are hard for me, so I haven't been able to do that shot yet. So, instead, I used it for my sister, and I think it fit their style, family, and just who they are, perfectly.
| Sometimes that happens during a light check. |
| Goofball kid. I just love him. |
| This shot was my sisters idea. I love Jacob's hands. He would not put that other hand down....so we just left it there. It makes me smile. |
| This hat was made by, I think, the wife of one of the other firefighters at my brother in laws station. I thought it was so cute, and so sweet of them to do that for him, so we wanted to make sure we incorporated it. |
